Local Environmental Conditions
Around 47% of the area near the heart of Rakula is woodland, with a good deal of open water. The surrounding woodland makes trees an important local pollen source. Grasses add a sizeable share of the local pollen. Gaps in the canopy, trails and forest edges give grasses and herbs room to grow.
With warm weather all year, between about 25°C and 30°C, pollen is present in most months rather than in one short season. Levels tend to be highest in the drier months around June to August. During the rainy season, frequent heavy downpours wash much of the pollen out of the air. Warm, damp weather from mid-spring into early winter also raises mold spore levels.

Does pollen in Rakula come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Rakula based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Rakula, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
