Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the heart of Mount Duneed is open grassland, with a good deal of farmland. Close to running water, riverside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. Grasses are a major source, with pigweed and plantain adding to the weed pollen load. Pasture and uncultivated field edges in the farmland provide room for grasses and weeds.
Grasses take over in early summer and keep pollen in the air into late summer. Pigweed and plantain bring a final peak from early summer into early fall. Spring is the wettest time of year, and heavy showers can bring short breaks in pollen. Dry, sunny and breezy weather raises levels within each period, and steady rain brings them down.

Does pollen in Mount Duneed come from nearby or far away?

A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Mount Duneed based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Mount Duneed, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
