Local Environmental Conditions
Manning Point is surrounded mainly by open water, with some woodland. Close to running water, riverside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. With much of the immediate area made up of open water, local pollen production is limited, though pollen can still drift in from surrounding land. Grasses and pigweed growing in the surroundings are the main non-tree sources of pollen.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in early spring. Grasses take over in mid-spring and keep pollen in the air into mid-fall. Pigweed brings a final peak from early summer into early fall. Mold spores join in from midsummer into early fall, when damp, warm spells let them thrive. Day to day, sunshine and wind lift the counts, while a spell of rain can bring them down sharply.

Does pollen in Manning Point come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Manning Point based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Manning Point, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
