Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of Lowanna is woodland, with a good deal of open grassland. Along a stream or river nearby, trees, shrubs and reeds grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. So much tree cover makes trees an important source of pollen locally. Grass pollen is a substantial part of the local mix as well.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in early spring. Then come the grasses, strongest in mid-spring and fading by mid-fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. In warm, humid weather from midsummer into late fall, mold spores add to the mix, especially after rain.

Does pollen in Lowanna come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Lowanna based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Lowanna, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
