Local Environmental Conditions
The center of Flametree is heavily wooded. Close to a stream or river, riverside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. So much tree cover makes trees an important source of pollen locally. Grass pollen is a substantial part of the local mix as well. Clearings, tracks and woodland edges let grasses and other flowering plants grow among the trees.
With warm weather all year, between about 20°C and 25°C, pollen is present in most months rather than in one short season. Levels tend to be highest in drier spells, especially around September. During the rainy season, frequent heavy downpours wash much of the pollen out of the air. In warm, humid weather from early summer into late fall, mold spores add to the mix, especially after rain.

Does pollen in Flametree come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Flametree based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Flametree, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
