Local Environmental Conditions
The area around the center of Dobie is mostly open grassland, with a good deal of farmland and some woodland. The damp ground beside a watercourse nearby supports trees, shrubs and reeds, adding to local pollen. Grass pollen is plentiful, while plantain leads among the weeds. Field margins, fallow strips and pasture around the farmland add further grass and weed pollen.
Flowering trees bring the first pollen of the year in mid-spring. Grass pollen follows, peaking in early summer and easing off by late summer. The season closes with plantain from mid-spring into early fall. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels. By early winter, as temperatures fall to around 10°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Dobie come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Dobie based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Dobie, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
