Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around this part of Central Coast is woodland, with a good deal of open water. With running water close by, riverside vegetation contributes to the local mix. Woodland on all sides makes trees an important local pollen source. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside pigweed and plantain among the weeds.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in late winter. Grass pollen follows, peaking in mid-spring and easing off by early fall. Pigweed and plantain bring a final peak from early summer into early fall. Fall is the wettest time of year, and heavy showers can bring short breaks in pollen. Actual levels on any given day depend on the weather, with dry, breezy days the worst and wet days the mildest.

Does pollen in Central Coast come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Central Coast based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Central Coast, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
