Local Environmental Conditions
Open water makes up around 47% of the area near the heart of Canoelands, with a good deal of mangroves and some woodland. Close to a stream or river, riverside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. There is plenty of grass pollen here too. Locally, the mangroves make trees an important source.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in late winter. Grasses take over in mid-spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Rain is heaviest in fall, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels.

Does pollen in Canoelands come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Canoelands based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Canoelands, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
