Local Environmental Conditions
Manuka is one of Canberra's oldest planned suburbs, its shopping and residential streets shaded by mature exotic deciduous trees typical of the capital's early garden-city design, with nearby Manuka Oval's turf and parkland trees adding further greenery. Grass pollen typically becomes the dominant local allergen through late spring and into summer, following an earlier and comparatively brief peak from flowering wattle and eucalypt in the cooler months.
Manuka's leafy streets, shaded by mature elms and oaks planted through the inner-south decades ago, put this shopping and residential precinct among the first parts of Canberra to feel tree pollen each August and September, alongside eucalypt and wattle from nearby reserves.
