Local Environmental Conditions
Ballina sits where the Richmond River meets the coast, surrounded by subtropical vegetation including casuarina (she-oak) along the dunes, remnant coastal rainforest, melaleuca wetlands and sugarcane farmland further inland. Coastal banksia and eucalypt woodland round out the mix. This blend of cane country, wetland and coastal forest is characteristic of the Northern Rivers region.
