Local Environmental Conditions
The heart of Arakoon is heavily wooded. A stream or river nearby means riverside vegetation is part of the local pollen picture. Woodland on all sides makes trees an important local pollen source. Grass pollen is a substantial part of the local mix as well. Clearings, tracks and woodland edges let grasses and other flowering plants grow among the trees.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in early spring. Grasses take over in early spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into mid-fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Mold spores are in the air most of the year too, rising after rain.

Does pollen in Arakoon come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Arakoon based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Arakoon, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
