Secunda lies roughly 210 km west-southwest of Nelspruit. Vehicle traffic and coal mining and power station operations are the main contributors to air quality conditions at Secunda, set on the dry Highveld plateau. Winter mornings can see emissions concentrate under a temperature inversion, while the wetter, windier summer months typically bring clearer air to the wider district.
