Montijo's air quality reflects the southern Tagus estuary bank in the Setúbal peninsula opposite Lisbon, with vehicle traffic on the A2 motorway and the Montijo Airport's aviation operations contributing elevated NOₓ alongside the surrounding mixed industrial and residential character. The Tagus estuary provides Atlantic ventilation, while the prevailing northwesterly winds generally carry Lisbon's urban emissions southward toward the Montijo-Alcochete shoreline and the airport's operations add aviation emissions to the local corridor throughout the year.
