Kielce's air quality reflects its position in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains highlands of central Poland, with residential coal and wood burning generating elevated PM2.5 alongside vehicle traffic on the S7 expressway. The surrounding Świętokrzyskie ridgelines create more complex topographic ventilation than the flat Polish plain, while the region's limestone quarrying and cement manufacturing industry contributes elevated PM10, and Kielce's coal heating dependency creates the seasonal PM2.5 challenge typical of Polish cities during the winter heating season.
