Veszprém's air quality reflects the Séd river valley at the Bakony highland edge in western Hungary, with vehicle traffic on the M8 motorway and the surrounding university and manufacturing industry contributing local sources. The surrounding Bakony hills create topographic variation, while winter residential heating and temperature inversions in the Veszprém basin contribute seasonal PM2.5 elevation and the western Hungary position generally provides somewhat cleaner Atlantic-influenced airflows compared to eastern Hungary's more continental winters.
