Known for its mangoes, Bowen's air quality is shaped by horticultural activity, dust and spray from surrounding mango and vegetable farms, alongside dry-season savanna burning smoke and the ever-present risk of cyclone-season disruption between November and April. Being drier than tropical coast towns further north such as Cairns and Innisfail, Bowen experiences less wet-season mould and humidity, though onshore breezes off the Coral Sea generally keep the air well ventilated for much of the year. Farm machinery dust and occasional smoke haze from inland grass fires add to seasonal variability, particularly during the dry, windy build-up months.
