Irrigated citrus and vine country surrounds Berri, another Riverland town along the Murray where agricultural dust from dry paddocks and orchard operations is a familiar seasonal presence, particularly through harvest and the drier months of late summer. Being well inland, Berri misses out on the steady sea breezes that ventilate South Australia's coastal towns, so haze and dust can occasionally linger on calm days. Bushfire smoke adds to the seasonal picture between December and March, especially when dry mallee scrub nearby is under fire risk. Low humidity is the year-round norm, and outside these periods air quality remains generally good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air quality bad in Berri right now?

On 16 July 2026, overall air quality in Berri is poor. AQI is the main air quality indicator at 76.8/100. Pollution peaks around 6:30 AM (NO2: 76.8/100).

When is air pollution at its worst in Berri?

Anyone tracking air quality in Berri should keep an eye on summer months, when fires in nearby bushland can send smoke through on hot, dry days. Away from fire season, a consistent onshore breeze generally keeps air quality high. Keeping half an eye on forecasts during that stretch is the practical takeaway otherwise.

Are air quality levels in Berri based on measurements or forecasts?

It is forecasts derived by downscaling forecasts provided by EU’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) by taking into account local conditions such as traffic patterns. CAMS bases its forecast on satellite measurements of particles and chemical compounds in the atmosphere. Airmine’s services were developed with support from the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Business Applications and Space Solutions (BASS) team.
