Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of White City is woodland, with some built-up land and open grassland. With a stream or river close by, riverside vegetation contributes to the local mix. Allergenic trees nearby include oak. Grasses add a sizeable share of the local pollen. Street trees, private gardens and mown lawns add to local pollen in the more built-up surroundings.
Tree pollen peaks in early spring, when the weather warms to around 20°C and oak is in full flower. Grasses take over in mid-spring, with temperatures around 25°C, and their pollen lingers into late fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Warm, damp weather from early summer into late winter also raises mold spore levels.

Does pollen in White City come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in White City based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in White City, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
