Local Environmental Conditions
This area, within the local area, has a stretch of hazel and willow lines the water, feeding some of spring's earliest pollen. This area, a short distance from here, has woodland dominated by oak and birch, with birch a leading regional tree-pollen allergen. Grass and ornamental trees within the park boundary contribute modestly to grass and ragweed levels, within the neighborhood.
Hazel and willow near the water open the pollen calendar early, hitting its peak before most trees have even budded, around late winter into March. Oak and birch in the woods pick up where the earlier species leave off, typically the year's sharpest tree-pollen spell, centered on April and May. Late spring brings rising grass pollen that crests in June, and ragweed later takes the lead from mid-August through October.
