Local Environmental Conditions
Hazel and willow thrive along the damp bank, both prolific early wind-pollinators, close by. Here, within the neighborhood's edge, a wooded area built around oak and birch, both contributing heavily to the region's spring pollen totals. Maintained parkland where turf grass and ornamental species add to the grass and ragweed mix; this sits just outside the immediate area.
Hazel and willow along the water get the season underway before other species, usually peaking sometime between late winter and the end of March. By mid-spring, oak and birch in the woods take over, topping out in the April-to-May stretch. Moving into early summer, grass pollen climbs to its seasonal high in June, then yields to ragweed, the dominant late-summer and fall allergen through October.
