Local Environmental Conditions
Nearby, some 400-500 meters to the edge of the area, a waterway supports hazel and willow along its bank, both strongly allergenic wind-pollinated species. Tree cover made up mostly of oak and birch, both significant spring allergen sources, only about 100 meters off. The park's turf and planted trees form a small but steady source of grass and ragweed pollen, within easy reach at 700m.
The waterside hazel and willow are consistently first to release pollen each year, peaking in late winter through March. Oak and birch in the woodland come next, through the heart of spring, peaking in the heart of spring, generally April into May. Grass pollen becomes the dominant allergen through late spring, peaking in June, handing off to ragweed, which peaks from mid-August through October.
