Local Environmental Conditions
This location in Temescal Valley is surrounded mainly by open grassland, with a good deal of bare ground and some scrubland. Close to a stream or river, riverside trees such as willow and plane tree contribute to what is in the air. Of the allergenic trees nearby, oak matters most, while willow and plane tree also contribute. Grasses and weeds such as pigweed and mugwort round out the local mix.
Tree pollen peaks in mid-spring, when the weather warms to around 15°C and oak, willow and plane tree are in full flower. Grass pollen follows, peaking in late spring and easing off by early fall. The season closes with pigweed and mugwort from early summer into early fall. Winter is the wettest time of year, and heavy showers can bring short breaks in pollen.
