Local Environmental Conditions
This part of Sonora is surrounded mainly by woodland, which covers around 77% of the nearby area, with some built-up land. Lawns and planted trees in a nearby park add to local grass and tree pollen. Allergenic trees nearby include oak. There is plenty of grass pollen here too. Undergrowth, clearings and woodland edges add smaller amounts of grass and herb pollen.
Over the course of the year, tree pollen comes first, with oak in flower through spring. Grass flowering starts in mid-spring, is strongest around early summer and winds down by late summer. The season closes with a lower weed peak from early summer into early fall, mostly from roadside and field-edge plants. Here, winters average around freezing and summers around 25°C, with most rain falling in the cooler months.

Does pollen in Sonora come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Sonora based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Sonora, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
