Local Environmental Conditions
Open grassland makes up around 30% of the area near the center of Parachute, with some built-up land and scrubland. A nearby park adds mown lawns and planted trees to the local pollen mix. There is plenty of grass pollen here too. Street trees, private gardens and mown lawns add to local pollen in the more built-up surroundings.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in late spring. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into late summer. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. By mid-fall, as temperatures fall to around 5°C, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Parachute come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Parachute based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Parachute, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
