Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around Oakridge Campground is open grassland, with a good deal of woodland. Along a stream or river nearby, trees, shrubs and reeds grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. Trees are an important local pollen source, given how much woodland surrounds the area. There is plenty of grass pollen here too.
Tree pollen comes first, peaking in mid-spring. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Rain is heaviest in summer, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels. By late fall, as temperatures fall to around freezing, pollen levels are low again.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Oakridge Campground, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
