Local Environmental Conditions
This part of Happy Camp is surrounded mainly by woodland, which covers around 99% of the nearby area. Around here, tree cover makes trees an important source. Gaps in the canopy, trails and forest edges give grasses and herbs room to grow. Much of the pollen in dense woodland is released high in the canopy, where the wind carries it easily.
The year opens with tree pollen, which is highest around mid-spring. Grass pollen builds from mid-spring, peaks around early summer and stays noticeable until late summer. A smaller weed peak follows from early summer into early fall, from plants on verges and waste ground. Here, temperatures range from around freezing in the coldest month to around 25°C in the warmest, with most rain falling in the cooler months.

Does pollen in Happy Camp come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Happy Camp based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Happy Camp, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
