Local Environmental Conditions
Around 34% of the area near the center of Edwards is open grassland, with a good deal of built-up land and woodland. A nearby park adds mown lawns and planted trees to the local pollen mix. Of the allergenic trees nearby, poplar matters most, while juniper also contributes. There is plenty of grass pollen here too.
Tree pollen peaks in late spring, when the weather warms to around 5°C and poplar and juniper are in full flower. Grass pollen follows, peaking in midsummer and easing off by late summer. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. By mid-fall, as temperatures fall to around freezing, pollen levels are low again.

Does pollen in Edwards come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Edwards based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Edwards, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

Understanding the Scale
The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
Pollen
