Local Environmental Conditions
This site in Dove Valley is largely open grassland, with some built-up land. Along a watercourse nearby, trees such as willow and poplar grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. Poplar is the most prominent allergenic tree nearby, with juniper and willow also present. Beyond the trees, grasses matter a great deal, and pigweed and ragweed are the main weed sources.
Tree pollen peaks in mid-spring, when the weather warms to around 5°C and poplar, juniper and willow are in full flower. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Later, pigweed and ragweed keep weed pollen in the air from early summer into early fall. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels.

A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Dove Valley based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Dove Valley, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
