Local Environmental Conditions
Chaco Culture National Historical Park is a high desert canyon with scattered juniper and desert grasses. Pollen levels are modest but juniper season in late winter can catch visitors off guard. Windswept canyon terrain carries what little pollen exists widely.
As a landmark within Chaco Canyon, Chaco Culture National Historical Park follows the same seasonal pollen curve, opening with palo verde and mesquite from January with mulberry taking the lead through February. Grass pollen rises through March and April, and monsoon moisture from July through September brings a brief second wave of grass and weed pollen.
