Local Environmental Conditions
Bare ground and open grassland share the area around this location in Cascade-Chipita Park. With much of the immediate area made up of bare ground, local pollen production is limited, though pollen can still drift in from surrounding land. The allergenic tree mix in the wider area includes poplar and willow. Grasses growing in the surroundings are the main non-tree source of pollen.
Poplar and willow lead the season in mid-spring, as temperatures climb to around 5°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into late summer. Weeds on open ground add a smaller late peak from early summer into early fall. Spring is the wettest time of year, and heavy showers can bring short breaks in pollen.

Does pollen in Cascade-Chipita Park come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Cascade-Chipita Park based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Cascade-Chipita Park, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
