Local Environmental Conditions
The area around the center of Carrollton is mostly built-up land, with some woodland and open grassland. Close to Ranch Lake, lakeside trees such as willow and poplar add to local tree pollen. Allergenic trees nearby include elm, oak and juniper. Grasses are a major source, with ragweed and plantain adding to the weed pollen load.
First to flower are elm and juniper, in midwinter. Oak follows in early spring, as temperatures climb to around 15°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Grasses take over in mid-spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. The season closes with ragweed and plantain from late summer into mid-fall. Spring is the wettest time of year, and heavy showers can bring short breaks in pollen.

A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Carrollton based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Carrollton, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
