Local Environmental Conditions
The area around this location in Carrabelle is heavily wooded. With this much woodland around, trees are an important local pollen source. Grasses are also a significant pollen source here. Clearings, tracks and woodland edges let grasses and other flowering plants grow among the trees. Much of the pollen in dense woodland is released high in the canopy, where the wind carries it easily.
Month by month, trees are the first to release pollen, with a peak around early spring. Then come the grasses, with a peak around late spring that eases by late summer. The season closes with a lower weed peak from early summer into early fall, mostly from roadside and field-edge plants. Here, temperatures range from around 15°C in the coldest month to around 30°C in the warmest.

Does pollen in Carrabelle come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Carrabelle based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Carrabelle, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
