Local Environmental Conditions
The area around the center of Blanco is a mix of woodland and open grassland, plus some built-up land. Lawns and planted trees in a nearby park add to local grass and tree pollen. Plane tree, oak and juniper are among the allergenic trees nearby. Grass pollen is plentiful, while ragweed leads among the weeds.
The pollen year starts with juniper, active through winter. Plane tree and oak follow, peaking around early spring. Grasses take over, peaking around late spring and fading by late summer. Later in the year, ragweed adds weed pollen from late summer into mid-fall. Here, winters average around 10°C and summers around 30°C, with rain spread fairly evenly through the year.

Does pollen in Blanco come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Blanco based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Blanco, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
