Local Environmental Conditions
This part of Zürich is densely built up, with some woodland. A nearby park adds mown lawns and planted trees to the local pollen mix. Common allergenic trees nearby include oak, maple and hazel. Grasses and weeds such as plantain and ragweed round out the local mix. Compared with most places, ragweed is especially widespread here, which makes it one of the key local allergens.
First to flower is hazel, in late winter. Tree pollen peaks in late spring, when the weather warms to around 15°C and oak and maple are in full flower. Grasses take over in early summer, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into late summer. The most intense period comes from late spring into late summer, when plantain and ragweed are in flower.

Does pollen in Zürich come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Zürich based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Zürich, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
