Trento's clearest pollen exposure comes from birch and linden in late winter into spring, with grass extending it briefly before the Mediterranean summer heat and drought suppress vegetation; the window runs January to June. Exposure tends to be sharper and shorter-lived than in more temperate parts of Europe.

Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation.
