Local Environmental Conditions
The heart of Meda is surrounded mainly by built-up land, which covers around 59% of the nearby area, with a good deal of woodland. The leading allergenic tree nearby is hazel, with maple and oak close behind. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside plantain among the weeds. Around here, street trees, gardens and lawns supply most pollen in the built-up parts.
The pollen year starts in late winter, when hazel flowers. Tree pollen peaks in early spring, when the weather warms to around 10°C and maple and oak are in full flower. Grasses take over in late spring, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. The season closes with plantain from mid-spring into early fall.

Does pollen in Meda come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Meda based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Meda, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
