Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the center of Cantù is built-up land, with a good deal of woodland. Close to a lake or pond, lakeside vegetation contributes to what is in the air. Allergenic trees nearby include hazel, maple and ash. Grasses are a major source, with plantain adding to the weed pollen load.
Hazel opens the pollen season in late winter. Tree pollen peaks in early spring, when the weather warms to around 10°C and maple and ash are in full flower. Grasses take over in late spring, with temperatures around 15°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Plantain brings a final peak from mid-spring into early fall. Rain is heaviest in spring, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels.

Does pollen in Cantù come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Cantù based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Cantù, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

Understanding the Scale
The 0–100 pollen scores represent risk levels, not direct pollen measurements. Higher scores indicate higher risk.
