Local Environmental Conditions
Devil's Pulpit's Caledon setting features sugar maple, oak, and white pine as the main pollen sources across this Niagara Escarpment ravine course, with exposure varying between deep wooded valleys and elevated open fairways. The escarpment's Carolinian-transition woodland adds a broad hardwood pollen mix through spring, while surrounding rural Caledon farmland contributes grass and ragweed pollen in summer.
Tree pollen from maple, oak, and pine peaks in May across the escarpment's wooded ravines, followed by grass pollen through June and July in the open fairway corridors. Ragweed builds more mildly here than in urban Toronto, given the rural Caledon surroundings, running from late August through September. Because the rural Caledon setting sees lighter overall pollen loads than urban Toronto, sensitive golfers generally find the course comfortable across most of the season.
