São Vicente occupies a coastal island and mainland position at the São Paulo southern coast, where restinga coastal vegetation, mangrove, and introduced urban trees are the main pollen sources. The very wet Serra do Mar coastal climate provides very frequent rainfall interruptions, while the Atlantic Ocean position means onshore breezes frequently disperse pollen and the tropical climate supports year-round pollen production throughout.
