Pinheiro anchors the western Maranhão babaçu palm zone as a regional commercial hub, where babaçu palm, native cerrado trees, and secondary vegetation are the main pollen sources. The wet season from November to April brings frequent rainfall interruptions, while the dry season concentrates pollen dispersal and the babaçu palm contributes a particularly distinctive and locally dominant pollen source throughout this western Maranhão municipality.
