Irati occupies the Paraná central highland Pinhão region as the Araucaria pine heartland of Paraná, where Araucaria pine, eucalyptus, and native Atlantic Forest species are the main pollen sources on this elevated Segundo Planalto. The subtropical highland climate produces a well-defined pollen season, while the Araucaria pine contributes a particularly distinctive and locally dominant pollen source and the wet summer months bring frequent rainfall interruptions throughout.
