Crateús commands the western Ceará sertão as a major livestock and agribusiness hub, where native caatinga scrub, carnauba wax palm, and sparse drought-adapted trees are the main pollen sources. The very semi-arid climate produces an extremely compressed wet season from February to May, while the long dry season strongly concentrates pollen production and the open Ceará interior landscape allows very wide pollen dispersal throughout.
