Local Environmental Conditions
Most of the area around the heart of Ceará-Mirim is built-up land, with some open grassland and woodland. In the immediate area, open grassland adds grass and weed pollen; street trees, parks and lawns are the main sources in the built-up parts. Roadside verges and patches of open ground provide further room for grasses and weeds.
Temperatures stay between about 25°C and 30°C through the year, so plants release pollen in most months. The drier stretch around September to November usually brings the most pollen. During the rainy season, frequent heavy downpours wash much of the pollen out of the air. Mold spores join in from early fall into late winter, when damp, warm spells let them thrive.

Does pollen in Ceará-Mirim come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Ceará-Mirim based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Ceará-Mirim, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
