Local Environmental Conditions
This area, not far from here, has a stand of river oak lines the water, a reliable source of casuarina pollen through the warmer months. Woodland dominated by eucalypt and wattle, with wattle the more potent allergen of the two; this sits not far from here. This area, near this part of town, has parkland with regularly mown grass and planted plane trees, both sources of seasonal pollen.
The bank's river oak kicks off the pollen season ahead of the rest, usually the first pollen source active, peaking sometime in July or August. Once river oak fades, eucalypt and wattle in the woods carry the season forward, reaching its high point through August and into October. As spring turns to summer, grass pollen rises toward its November high, and remaining a significant allergen right through summer until it eases in February.
