Local Environmental Conditions
This part of Sunshine Coast Regional is surrounded mainly by woodland, with a good deal of built-up land. Along a stream or river nearby, trees, shrubs and reeds grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. Trees are an important local pollen source, given how much woodland surrounds the area. Grasses also feature strongly, alongside pigweed among the weeds.
Flowering trees bring the first pollen of the year in early spring. Grasses take over in mid-spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into mid-fall. Later, pigweed keeps weed pollen in the air from early summer into early fall. Warm, damp weather from midsummer into early fall also raises mold spore levels.

Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.

Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Sunshine Coast Regional, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
