Local Environmental Conditions
This area, within the local area, has river oak crowds the water's edge here, a well-known contributor to local casuarina pollen counts. Here, just outside the immediate area, woodland dominated by eucalypt and wattle, with wattle the more potent allergen of the two. Located in the vicinity, this area has a park whose turf grass and ornamental plane trees feed local pollen levels through spring.
River oak near the water opens the pollen calendar early, reaching its high point sometime in late winter or early spring. As spring approaches, eucalypt and wattle in the nearby woodland become the dominant source, topping out in the August-to-September stretch. Grass pollen climbs toward a November peak, then persisting at a reduced but still meaningful level into the new year.

Does pollen in Pyramid Hill come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Pyramid Hill based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Pyramid Hill, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.

Understanding the Scale
The 0–100 scores represent risk levels, not direct measurements of pollen or air pollutant concentrations. Higher scores indicate higher risk. Pollen and air quality use different thresholds.
