Local Environmental Conditions
River oak crowds the water's edge here, a well-known contributor to local casuarina pollen counts, just outside the immediate area. Nearby, not far from here, a mix of eucalypt and wattle, wattle in particular a notorious trigger for hay fever across southern Australia. Parkland with regularly mown grass and planted plane trees, both sources of seasonal pollen, close to this spot.
Water-edge river oak is usually the first allergenic tree active here, arriving ahead of the rest of the season, cresting around mid-winter. Eucalypt and wattle in the nearby woodland follow through late winter and early spring, building to its sharpest point across August and September. Grass pollen builds through spring and peaks in November, and remaining a significant allergen right through summer until it eases in February.
