Local Environmental Conditions
This site in East Albury is surrounded mainly by woodland, with a good deal of built-up land and some open grassland. Along running water nearby, trees such as willow grow in the damper ground and add their own pollen. Willow and olive are among the allergenic trees nearby. Grasses and weeds such as plantain and pigweed round out the local mix.
Willow and olive lead the season in late winter, as temperatures climb to around 10°C, and tree pollen reaches its peak. Grasses take over in late spring, with temperatures around 20°C, and their pollen lingers into early fall. Plantain and pigweed flower through much of the warmer half of the year. Rain is heaviest in summer, often giving short breaks from high pollen levels.

Does pollen in East Albury come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in East Albury based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in East Albury, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
