Local Environmental Conditions
This part of Baines is largely open grassland, with some woodland. There is plenty of grass pollen here too. Roadside verges and patches of open ground provide further room for grasses and weeds. Pollen also travels on the wind, so vegetation in the wider surroundings adds to local levels as well.
With warm weather all year, between about 25°C and 35°C, pollen is present in most months rather than in one short season. Levels tend to be highest in the drier months around June to August. During the rainy season, frequent heavy downpours wash much of the pollen out of the air. Mold spores join in from early summer into early fall, when damp, warm spells let them thrive.

Does pollen in Baines come from nearby or far away?
Studies show that most pollen exposure (often 70–90%) comes from nearby sources, such as local trees and vegetation. A good pollen forecast therefore depends on accurately representing local vegetation. Pollen can travel long distances, but this usually matters only early in the season or during specific wind events.
Are pollen levels in Baines based on measurements or forecasts?
Pollen data is often misunderstood. Most "pollen levels" are not real-time measurements, but forecasts.
Direct pollen measurements are typically delayed by 1-2 days because they require manual analysis. To show current conditions in Baines, modern forecasts combine recent measurements, weather data, and information about local vegetation.
This allows us to estimate pollen levels for today and the coming days, not just report the past.
