Local Environmental Conditions
Prominent red hill overlooking the town, its slopes covered in sparse arid vegetation — mulga and witchetty bush scrub, spinifex hummock grass and scattered river red gum in nearby watercourses. Introduced buffel grass, now widespread across Central Australia as pasture, is a major regional pollen contributor. The exposed hilltop setting allows wind-dispersed pollen from surrounding chenopod shrubland and grasses to travel readily across the township.
